About the
Tipton Fire Department |

|
|
Tipton is located in eastern Iowa 9 miles north of Interstate 80. Tipton Fire Department provides an all-volunteer fire coverage of the City of Tipton and the surrounding townships. Tipton's population is around 3,200 people. |

|
|
Tipton Fire Department covers roughy 110 square miles and a population totalling more than 4,700 people. Our territory includes about a 6 mile section of Interstation 80 and a large section of the Cedar River.

ISO Rating |
|
|
|
Tipton enjoys an ISO rating of 5 in town and 9 out of town.
The ISO rating is a point based system maintained by insurance companies as a way to base fire insurance rates. 1 is the best while 10 is the worst. They take into account everything from total length of fire hose on a truck to the cities water distribution system.
Tipton's ratings are average to above average for a rural city. |

We are dispatched from the Cedar County Sheriff's Office over Motorola Minitor III and IV pagers.
We are part of the Cedar County Automatic-Aid agreement which states that when any Cedar County fire department is paged for a structure fire, the next closest fire department is automatically paged out at the same time.
This ensures that there will be ample manpower and water supply at the fire scene as quickly as possible. |

Federal Grant |

|
In 2002, Tipton Fire Department recieved a federal fire grant of $61,777. We used this money to purchase all new firefighting gear and a Termal Imaging Camera which enables us to "see through" smoke. |
